Almost certainly lost

No signals from Freya’s transmitter so it’s looking as though she is lost.  Her transmitter has charged through the winter and so it’s more likely that she moved into new areas, where she was killed, rather than a transmitter fault.  But will give it a bit longer in the hope of several days of bright sun to see if a new signal does come through.

May be something wrong

No transmissions since the 5th March, so two signal days have been missed.  It’s looking very possible that something has happened to Freya – I hope that we may get something next scheduled date but it could be that she has been killed on her travels.

No news

Should have been signals today but nothing came in from Freya’s transmitter. On 5th March she was in Strathdon, and after her last GPS reading at 6am, her battery was drained by 8am, so may be needs some sun to recharge.

Big flight on 1st March

Freya continues to live in the same area in Strathdon and Glenlivet, but on 1st March (in beautiful spring-like weather) she went on a big flight. She left Strathdon after 8am and at 10am was 30 kms east, some 13 kms west of Inverurie, near Glenton. Two hours later she had flown  some 34 kms SW over Alford to Lary near Gairnshiel and then flew 30 kms WNW along the north side of the mountains towards the Upper Ailnack river by 2pm, she then flew 25 kms back to her normal haunts in Glen Livet.  A day’s flight of at least 120 kms – I wonder if she saw any peregrines on the way and how many.

Moving around more

Vega has changed her routine but still living in same area. Her night roosts are scattered with new ones further south in Strathdon near Inverernan, while day time flights have ranged much further – on four days 22nd – 25th she was in the Suie area of Glenfiddich during the midday period, while on 22nd at 2pm she had flown all the way to near Glenfiddich Lodge. The longest distance across locations was 22 kms and her range was 104 square kms.

Moving about more

Freya has spent more time on Glenlivet side of the Ladder Hills and even roosted overnight in a plantation near Chapeltown on 10th/11th February. On the 18th at 2pm was at the south end of Glen Fiddich before returning to Strathdon.

No change

Freya in same area, ranging during the day to the south of Strathdon on 7th, to the east of the Lecht on 9th and on Glen Livet estate on 10th and 11th.

No change

Very good series of GPS data showed Freya carrying out usual routine of roosting in forests and flying out onto open ground during the day, over a range of 40 square kms.

Still using the Strathdon forests and travelling up onto Ladder Hills during the day.
